ABOUT US

WHY WE STARTED THIS PROJECT

Everything started from this documentary that we watched, it was about kids that came from the poorest places of China, and an association called Baseball Angels trying to give them other choices for their future life by teaching them how to play baseball.

When I first watched the documentary, the kids reminded me of the Guizhou trip we went on where we interviewed the villagers about the education there, and what is going on with the left-over kids. Left-over kids are kids who get left at their home village by their parents while the parents go earn money for their livings and education in the city. However, because the teachers didn’t get a good education, they abused the kids. Which gave the kids bad quality education and caused them to skip school. In the documentary, the kids were in the exact same conditions. Their parents weren’t home, no one cared about them. The houses were shabby, it looked like it was about to collapse. All of the kids were so introverted. They wouldn’t talk to anyone and were filled with anger at the hopelessness of their situation.

In the documentary I saw how they were helped by Power Baseball. They were taught the basics of how to live, such as how to clean, how to cook. They were educated, learning how to write, sing, and calculate. The most important thing is they were taught how to become a person. Playing baseball taught them sportsmanship. They respected, they gave gratitude, and they were responsible. I realized that these kids can still be changed. They still have a chance for their life to be changed.

This is why we want to help them. We want more people to know the good Power baseball is doing. We want more people to know the stories of these children. We want more people to know sports and education can change people's lives.

They were so similar to the left-over children. These kids were filled with anger at the hopelessness of their situation.

This summer we got the opportunity to help raise awareness of the kids that came from the poorest places of China. During the process of interviews and the making of websites, we learned lots of things that we never got in contact with before.
